History

Aurantiol is the Schiff base formed when hydroxycitronellal reacts with methyl anthranilate. It is yellow-orange and far longer-lasting than its two parents.


In perfumery

Used in orange blossom and white floral bases. It can discolour products. On hydrolysis it releases hydroxycitronellal, a labelled EU allergen.
