porch at dusk

3 oils · Herbal · Woody · Warm spice · code BL-0996

Back in the countryside, sitting on the porch with a pot of tea and a plate of cinnamon-spiced sweets. Cinnamon and juniper, three drops each, make a pair of sweet spice and green resin, and two drops of fennel add an unusual sweet, sharp note. Great for a living room in the cold season or the days leading up to Tet, the Lunar New Year. Cinnamon is quite strong; in a small room, reduce it to two drops.

How it unfolds

As it settles. Cinnamon (spicy-sweet, hot and warm); juniper (green and berry-like, with clean resinous wood); fennel (sweet and herbal with a little anise) form the body of the scent and stay longest in the room.

What remains. With no woody or resin base note, this blend fades fairly quickly — switch it on again after 1–2 hours to keep the room scented.

Method

Diffuser
Cinnamon 3 · Juniper 3 · Fennel 2 drops in 200–300 ml of water. Run for 30–60 minutes, then take a break.
10 ml roller
Cinnamon 2 · Juniper 2 · Fennel 1 drops, then top up with a carrier oil (jojoba or sweet almond). Dab on wrists and the back of the neck.
50 ml room spray
Cinnamon 11 · Juniper 11 · Fennel 8 drops + 1 teaspoon of food-grade alcohol, then top up with distilled water. Shake before spraying.

FAQ

How do I use porch at dusk in a diffuser?
Add Cinnamon 3 · Juniper 3 · Fennel 2 drops to 200–300 ml of water. In a room under 15 m², use 1–2 drops less; in a room over 25 m², add 1 more drop of the main oil.
What can I use instead of cinnamon?
Swap cinnamon for coriander or pink pepper — same warm spice family. The blend will shift a little: coriander is warm and seedy, lightly sweet, with a whisper of spice.
When is the best time to use porch at dusk?
Use it while meditating, doing yoga, journaling, or simply sitting still for 10 minutes without your phone.
