History

6-methylcoumarin was once used in fragrance and flavour. It is a photoallergen, so IFRA has prohibited it as a fragrance ingredient since Amendment 40.

In perfumery

No longer used in IFRA-compliant perfumery. In the EU it is permitted only in oral care products, up to 0.003%.
