History

alpha-hexylcinnamaldehyde is made by condensing benzaldehyde with octanal. It is one of the highest-volume synthetic fragrance materials.

In perfumery

A staple of budget jasmine and widely used in soap, detergent and cosmetics. Stable in alkaline media.
