History

4-tert-Butylcyclohexyl acetate is made from p-tert-butylphenol by hydrogenation and esterification. The cis to trans isomer ratio determines the odor, so makers offer several grades.

In perfumery

It is inexpensive, stable and used in large volumes in soap, shampoo and detergent for a clean woody note.
