History

Like C-14, "aldehyde C-18" is a misnomer: this is a nine-carbon lactone, not an eighteen-carbon aldehyde. gamma-nonalactone occurs in small amounts in many fruits and cooked foods.

In perfumery

Used in coconut and sun-cream accords and in tropical florals such as tiare and gardenia.
