Farnesyl acetate is the acetate ester of farnesol, occurring substantially in ambrette and ylang-ylang oils.
Skin. A 2 percent patch test on 33 volunteers produced neither irritation nor sensitization.
Oral and dermal. Acute oral LD50 in both rats and mice exceeds 5 g/kg. Acute dermal LD50 exceeds 5 g/kg in both rabbits and guinea pigs.

Farnesyl acetate together with (Z)-ambrettolide and farnesol are the three constituents that make ambrette seed a precious plant-based musk source in fine perfumery.
