History

Exaltenone is the unsaturated form of cyclopentadecanone, with one double bond in the 15-membered ring. It belongs to the macrocyclic ketone musks that Firmenich developed from Ružička's foundational work.

In perfumery

Exaltenone is used to build a bright, clean musk base in floral and skin-scent compositions, often together with macrolide musks.
