Decyl acetate

Decyl acetate is a long-chain ester occurring in a few floral essential oils. Available data indicate it is safe at standard use levels.

Skin. Applied undiluted to rabbit skin, it was slightly irritating. An 8 percent patch test on 25 volunteers produced neither irritation nor sensitization.

Oral and dermal. Acute oral LD50 in rats and acute dermal LD50 in rabbits both exceed 5 g/kg, typical of low-toxicity compounds.

Its simple ester structure makes it very unlikely to be carcinogenic.

Decyl acetate is used as a fruity note in perfumery and food flavoring at low concentrations.
