History

Calone (7-methyl-2H-1,5-benzodioxepin-3(4H)-one) was discovered by Pfizer in 1966. It came into use in the 1980s and became the signature of the 1990s marine trend.

In perfumery

Used at low levels for marine, melon and watery effects; overdosing turns metallic.
