History

Bourgeonal became known outside perfumery through a 2003 Science study by Spehr and colleagues: it activates the olfactory receptor OR1D2 (hOR17-4) present on human sperm cells.

In perfumery

Used in lily of the valley accords for freshness. Limited by both the EU and IFRA.
