Phenylethyl methyl ether is the principal constituent of kewda oil, at 65 to 75 percent. Available data indicates it is safe at standard concentrations.

Skin. Undiluted material was mildly irritating to rabbit skin under 24-hour occlusion. At 8 percent on 25 volunteers it was neither irritating nor sensitizing.

Oral. Acute oral LD50 in rats was 4.1 g/kg. Acute dermal LD50 in rabbits was 3.97 g/kg.
