History

Nirvanolide is a 15-membered macrolide with a methyl branch and one double bond, part of the macrocyclic musks Givaudan developed in recent decades. The aim for this group was high strength at low dose and better biodegradability than polycyclic musks.

In perfumery

Nirvanolide is used as a musk base in fragrance and personal care, giving a clean yet warm effect.
