Hexyl butyrate is an aliphatic ester occurring at low levels in Roman chamomile.

Skin. Applied undiluted to rabbit skin for 24 hours, it was slightly irritating. A 12 percent patch test on 30 volunteers produced neither irritation nor sensitization.

Oral and dermal. Acute oral LD50 in rats and acute dermal LD50 in rabbits both exceed 5 g/kg.
