(E)-Phenylpropyl cinnamate is the principal constituent of American styrax oil at about 32 percent. Available data indicates it is safe.

Skin. Undiluted material was non-irritating to rabbit skin. At 4 percent on 25 volunteers it was neither irritating nor sensitizing.

Oral. Acute oral LD50 in rats exceeded 5 g/kg. Acute dermal LD50 in rabbits exceeded 5 g/kg.
