History

HICC (hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde), sold by IFF as Lyral, was once very widespread. Because of high contact allergy rates in patch testing, the EU moved it to Annex II under Regulation (EU) 2017/1410: no new products on the market from 23 August 2019, none made available from 23 August 2021.

In perfumery

No longer used in cosmetics in the EU. Frequently cited as the textbook case of a material withdrawn for allergy.
