Blend recipes · Bug repellent

sweet but scary to bugs

3 oils · Citrus · Floral · Herbal · code BL-2549

Looks harmless: just six drops, three oils in equal parts. Citronella gives that familiar bold grassiness, geranium adds a soft green rose, and lemon brightens the top. Light overall, great for a small bedroom or a desk by the window in rainy season. Run a mini diffuser for about 20 minutes before you sit down to work; for larger rooms, double the recipe.

How it unfolds

On opening. Citronella (strong, green and slightly lemony); lemon (fresh, bright and clean) rise first, clearest in the first 10–15 minutes.

As it settles. Geranium (green and rosy, fresh and balanced) forms the body of the scent and stays longest in the room.

What remains. With no woody or resin base note, this blend fades fairly quickly — switch it on again after 1–2 hours to keep the room scented.

FAQ

How do I use sweet but scary to bugs in a diffuser?
Add Citronella 2 · Geranium 2 · Lemon 2 drops to 200–300 ml of water. In a room under 15 m², use 1–2 drops less; in a room over 25 m², add 1 more drop of the main oil.
What can I use instead of citronella?
Swap citronella for rosemary or eucalyptus — same herbal family. The blend will shift a little: rosemary is cool, green, herbal and invigorating.
When is the best time to use sweet but scary to bugs?
Diffuse it on the balcony, porch or in the bedroom in the evening; keep the window screens shut for best results.
